The History and Mission of the Bryan-Wade Fund
The Bryan-Wade Trust Fund is a 501(c)3 charitable entity that was started on May 22, 1984 by Coach Jimmie Bryan and Preston Wade. Coach Bryan was E. C. Glass's legendary basketball coach and the former mayor of Lynchburg. Preston Wade was the president of Wiley & Wilson and a long time civic leader in Central Virginia.

Our mission is to provide financial aid to student-athletes at E. C. Glass. Each spring, we award a scholarship to both a male and female college-bound student. We also provide smaller amounts of financial aid to students for things like athletic physicals, SAT exam fees, and clothing.

The Jimmie Bryan Scholarship
The scholarship is a $1,000 gift to both a male and a female for the first year of college. The criteria for selecting scholarship recipients is based primarily on financial need. Applicants need to be athletes at the high school level but not necessarily at the college level. Our ultimate goal is to provide the scholarship for all four years of college. Applications are on file at E C Glass through the guidance counselors.

The Investment Fund and Board of Directors
Our Investment Fund exceeds $100,000 through the generous support of so many alumnae and friends of E C Glass. The Trust has distributed almost $20,000 since its inception to worthy students. The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust oversees the investments and disbursements of the Trust. Gifts paid with stock (or other marketable securities) can be made through any financial institution that houses an account for the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust. The Board of Directors of the Bryan-Wade Fund is comprised of dedicated alumnus and friends of E C Glass, including the athletic director and one guidance counselor. The board meets several times each year.
